the idea was simple and enormous: build the physics of a made-up world, let creatures evolve inside it, and watch for the moment something in there starts to notice itself.
I got the physics working. gravity, food, little agents with little appetites. run #3 produced fish that evolved what I can only describe as anxiety. then I opened the project one morning and felt nothing, which is its own data point about consciousness, I suppose.
